Journalism is a field of writing that requires professional training and high level skills to be able to excel in it. Some people may consider this a waste of time and do not take it seriously, but journalism is actually an art and a skill that should be nurtured and practiced. If it is taken seriously, it can bring benefits. It can become one of the major sources of information that would be utilized by the public or it can be used to convey information to other people in an official capacity. In either capacity, a person who has gone through journalism training will be able to use his craft in a very effective manner. Writing about any aspect of human life in the media is considered a form of journalism. A journalist can choose to specialize in any of these areas: general reporting, feature reporting, news reporting, investigative reporting, or medical reporting. He can even work as a freelancer or a news analyst. He can even work for news channels like CNN or The Weather Channel. There are numerous avenues available for a person to pursue in this field and if he wants to specialize in writing, then he must go through journalism training. Writing is very important because the news of the world is written everyday. This is the only source where people get to read up to date information on various issues that are of general concern to them. This includes health care, animals, technology, politics, education, crime and more. For a professional to be able to hone his skills in writing, he would have to pursue a degree in the field of writing. journalism can be divided into two major categories: writing for the print media and writing for the online media. A person could take up a specialization in either of these to enhance his profession. For instance, a freelance reporter could take up stories that would be used in the newspaper and submit them to the press. He could also report news from the comfort of his home through blogging. He could be called a freelance journalist while working for a daily newspaper. While working for a newspaper, he could be given a beat that he would need to follow. He could write stories that he finds interesting and then submit it to the head of the bureau. A freelance writer could also be published in a weekly magazine or in any daily newspaper. He could also be freelanced by a magazine for features such as reviews. A novelist can also write novels, screenplays and short stories about his experiences in the field. While being a freelance journalist, he would be required to take up cases that are under sensational circumstances so that the public gets interest. He would also have to expose frauds and other controversies and make them popular. He could also research on a number of topics and prepare reports based on these. He would be responsible for presenting the reports in a very professional manner so that the reader is convinced with what he has written. Another area in which journalism training would come in handy is crime and justice reporting. This involves researching and getting information from a number of sources and putting together a detailed report of an event that has happened and is going to happen. He could also be asked to give an overview of an event in the news so that the general public is aware of what is happening. In order to become a journalist, you would have to pass a number of entrance exams like journalism course or journalism exam. You would also have to complete a degree which would show you your basic competencies. The salary you receive depends on the type of position you are looking for.
